There are seven areas that you need to question: 1. The Bakery | 2. Sales staff | 3. Displays/photos | 4. Setup arrangements | 5. Cake types/fillings | 6. Decorator’s expertise | 7. Delivery process.

This article will cover: DELIVERY PROCESS.

Ask: Do you offer delivery and set-up of the cake(s)? Is there a limited delivery area?

Yes, it may seem obvious that all cake shop/bakeries would deliver your cake, however, that is not always the case.

First, you need to inquire if they deliver and then ask how much? Some bakeries say they deliver for free, but of course, it is built into the price.

The real test is when you ask, “how about if I pick up my wedding cake” how much less will the cake be? If they answer, “we don’t charge for delivery, so there is nothing to discount” watch out! This is a complete gimmick. They hope you pick up your wedding cake. That way it saves them money. But it doesn’t save you money.

Cake shop/bakeries that charge separately have your best interest in mind. If you want to pick it up yourself, you don’t pay for delivery. And if you want it delivered you’ll pay between $25-$75 in town and $50 to 1.50 per mile for out of town depending on the distance.

Keep in mind, a majority of cake shop/bakeries don’t, and even worse, won’t deliver very far out of town. The cake shop/bakeries that have first-rate customer service will deliver any day, anywhere, any time.

Ask: Can you explain to me how you handle the delivery of my wedding cake?

This question will illustrate the competency of their delivery methodology.

Ask: How long will my wedding cake be refrigerated before it is delivered?

It should be in a refrigerator for 4-8 hours for proper cooling. It needs time to completely firm the inside of the wedding cake, so it can be transported without worry. If it isn’t refrigerated first, your cake has a much greater risk of falling apart if the vehicle hits a chuckhole, runs across a big bump or the vehicle has to quickly stop. If they say, “we refrigerate it over night” that is too long because the cake will gather condensation and the icing will look wet or form water spots. (The exception is if they completely box and cover your wedding cake.) Through the research for Wedding Cake Secrets Exposed, we learned the delivery of the wedding cake ranked third for the most common worry among brides. The good news, it doesn’t need to be. Wedding Cake Secrets Exposed gives you specific advice to make the delivery of your wedding cake as worry-free as laying on the beach in Cancun.
